Interview with Cathrine Bui – Speaker at MediaTech Hub Conference 2022
Cathrine Bui fell in love with programming early on, and spends much of her time encouraging other girls to do the same. At MediaTech Hub Conference 2022, the AI ethic specialist is joining the panel “AI-driven language in New Virtual Worlds: Are You talking To Me?”. Cathrine will be discussing the need for ethical programming of language interpretation in the Metaverse. After all, if avatars will be able to understand each other instantly, regardless of language, imagine the chaos if the translation programme “doesn’t get it”! Cathrine will show how ethics, context, a broad understanding of nuance, and social structures are a programming must.

How do you feel about MediaTech today and in the future?
Well-informed citizens and media are important pillars of democracy. Unfortunately, tech is eroding democracy with fake news.
Where do you see the biggest opportunities for MediaTech in your sector?
Metaverse is a golden opportunity for media to reinvent themselves from using click-baits to a fully immersed audience.
What are the key messages you will share at #mthcon22?
We need to consider the effect on society while creating tech, or else we won’t agree on what is true and then we can’t solve problems because we cannot even agree on whether a problem like global warming is real or not.
What are you looking forward to most at #mthcon22?
Having thoughtful discussions on how we can design AI and technology that does not lead us into a disconnected dystopia, but a world where we are emotionally more connected to each other.
